Ronald Ray Castro

Ronald “Ray” Castro passed away December 29, 2025, at his home in Toledo, Washington with his wife and daughter at his side.

He met Nancy in February of 1977, and they married in Beaverton, Oregon in December 1977. Together they started a family, having Erica and Steven.

Ray worked for the USPS in and around Portland, Oregon for 42 years until retiring in 2016. While working for the post office as an express mail deliverer, he had the opportunity to check out the small towns surrounding the Portland area and spotted a place for retirement. He and Nancy decided on Toledo, Washington, and moved there in 2006.

Ray’s favorite past time was umpiring baseball for PBUA (Portland Baseball Umpire Association), and he did so for 19 years. He also dabbled in local fishing, camping with family, photography, working as a bus driver for a private bicycle touring company around the state of Oregon, growing irises and dahlias, and playing farmer on his 14 acres in Toledo.

Ray is the son of Robert Reyes Castro (now deceased) and Anna Marie Castro of Tigard, Oregon. He was born in Texas City, Texas in 1952 and was proud of his father’s military service in the Air Force, which provided his family an experience of living in multiple countries and states. A true military brat. He and his family decided to settle in, as he put it, “the best place, the Pacific Northwest.”

Ray is survived by his wife Nancy, son Steven, daughter Erica, and two grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Anna Marie, sister Tracy, brothers Robin and Roger, and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his father Robert Reyes Castro in 2017, his brother Robert Jr. in 2023, and nephew Rob Castro in 2024.

A Celebration of Life for Ronald “Ray” Castro will be held on Sunday June 28th, 2026, at Bateaux Cellars, 288 Smokey Valley Road, Toledo, Washington from 12:00–5:00 pm.
