Edith Johanna Bailey, born June 21st, 1951, passed away suddenly on May 27th, 2025. She is survived by her children; Alex, Valerie, Louis, and David as well as by her grandchildren; Felicia, Adam, Geremiah, Crystal, Mercedes and Mirriahh along with many great grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much, each one in her own special way. Edith did everything in her own way, with such a resilient and quite often stubborn spirit. Her generosity was unmatched and her tenacity unrivalled.
Edith enjoyed music, reading and most of all art. She was a talented artist, painting landscapes and country sides with an acrylic medium. Her creativity translated over all areas of her life. Whether it was through writing, crafts, cooking, decorating, gardening or fashion and hairdressing. She once even dabbled in graphic design. Anything she set her sights on doing, she did it. And she did it well.
Edith was bilingual and one of the most intelligent women you would ever meet. She loved learning new things. Especially about people and other cultures. She was spiritual and a woman of her faith.
Edith loved nature. She always had a strong connection with animals and loved them all so very deeply. She loved hiking and rockhounding. She and her late husband John would go hunting in the mountain creeks and riverbeds for the most beautiful gemstones. This became a family tradition, still in practice today. The evergreen trees, the beautiful vibrant birds, the deer nibbling on the leaves and berries, the blossoms blooming, even the rain...she loved it all! The Pacific Northwest was the perfect place for her to call home.
Originally from Germany, Edith immigrated to the United States with the dream of starting a new life and creating the family she had always craved. And so she did.
Edith was like most European matriarchs in that she was a real force of nature. She was a sounding board, best friend, teacher, your worst critic but also someone who would always go to bat for you without a second thought. She reminded us that none of us are infallible, and we are all just doing the best that we can or know how to and that is ok.
She found her true happiness in John, and they were married for over 40 years. John passed away in 2019 after a brave lengthy battle with ALS. Edith lost more than a husband when John died, she lost a piece of herself. But we must find solace in the fact that they are now together once more.
